Some information about Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is a beautiful country, and it is the former Soviet Republic. Officially it is the Republic of Azerbaijan. Geographically this state is unique by its location. It extends from Asia to Europe. The country is surrounded by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. Other than that there is Russia in the north, Georgia in the northwest, Armenia in the west and Iran in the south of Azerbaijan. Baku is the capital city of this country.
Azerbaijan has a rich history of more than 5000 years. In 6 th century missionaries came here and converted many people to Christianity. In 642, the Muslim Arabs entered and made it an Islamic territory. In 11 th century, another Islamic Turkish group came here in power. The original Persian mixed with Turkish, made a new language ‘Azeri’. Then in 1236, the famous Genghis Khan came in power and stay here till 1498. In 1500, a new Persian dynasty started, and the Persian fought with Russian for several times. This dynasty ended in 1722 and the north Azerbaijan divided into many states which helped Russia to come in power. In 1918, Bolshevik section of the Communist party formed replacing the democratic government of Russia and the Soviet Union formed; and democratic government formed in this place. In 1920, Soviet Union occupied Azerbaijan. Soviet Union started falling in late 80s. Azerbaijan declared its Independence in 30 th August 1991. In 1993, Armenia captured 20 percent of Azerbaijan. In 1993, Aliyev became president of Azerbaijan and reconcile with Armenia.
Baku is the most beautiful walled old city and one the best tourist destination of Azerbaijan. It is the capital city of the commercial nation Azerbaijan situated beside the Caspian Sea. Baku is the ‘city of winds’ or ‘wind blow’ as it is very breezy all around the year. It is the lowest lying capital of a state and the largest city below the sea level, in the world. The spectacular huge royal compound medieval Palace of the Shirvan Shahs and the amazing stone made Maiden's Tower, Giz Qalasi are the two highlights of this city. On the contrary to these ancient architectures, we can see here the Heydar Aliyev Center and the Flame Towers, the fully LED screen covered tri-pointed large construction; which are completely latest structures. Baku is the largest industrial centers loaded with ancient oil fields. It has one of the biggest ports on the Caspian Sea and also the rail junction. There are 30 museums to see among which the Azeri National Costume Museum, Taghiyev History Museum, Latif Karimov Carpet Museum, and Jafar Jabbarli museum are famous. Near the city, Atashgah Fire Temple, Yanar Dagh, Qala and Artem Island are the must visit places.
The People of Azerbaijan are called Azerbaijanis or Azeris or Azerbaijani Turks, the cultural Turkic group living in Iranian Azerbaijanian region and in Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan. Mainly the Azerbaijanis follow Shia Islam religion. They follow the mixed culture of Turk, Caucasian and Iranian. People here are very warm and lovable and they are well-known for their hospitality.
Weather of Azerbaijan is exceptionally diverse as the country is located at the extreme northern position of the subtropical zone. It has three different climate zones as per the location of land; the mountain region; the southern portion of the mountain region; and the coastal region. On an average, in Azerbaijan, the summers are sunny and dry and the temperatures vary from 20 degree to 30 degree centigrade, but sometimes harsh thunderstorms occur which can cause local damage. During winter, it is extremely cold with little snowfall. In the mountain region, winter is extremely cold and snowstorm is a common feature there. The southern portion of the mountain region, there is the sunny summer with little rain fall and milder winter.The coastal region is comparatively warmer due to the Caspian Sea.
The currency of Azerbaijan is called the ‘Manat’ in Azeri. 1 Manat is divided in 100 Qepik. Its currency code is AZN, and the symbol is like English small letter ‘m’ for Manat and ‘qr’ for Qepik. On the notes of ‘Manat’, denominations are written in Azeri, Russian and sometimes in French. To the tourist of Azerbaijan, the most popular Azerbaijan Manat Exchange Rate is USD to AZN. Though without calculation the value cannot be said as the rate is always changing, but on an approximation the value of manat is almost half of a Dollar.
The nightlife of Azerbaijan or rather Baku is vibrant. Not only the native people but the outsiders also come to experience the sparkling nightlife of Baku. People cannot even think how drastically the view of day changed in the night time. There are so many best night clubs and pubs across the world. Among all, the rockers and the visitors from all over the world come to enjoy and perform on the stage of very famous ‘Crystal Hall’ as it is provided with the ultra modern technology of concert. The main language of Azerbaijan is Azerbaijani or Azeri. It is a Turkic language. Though it is the official language and spoken in the Republic of Azerbaijan and Dagestan, every people residing in the country do not use it. The place of Azerbaijan closed to Russia and Iran; their dialects are different from Azerbaijani. Place close to Iran use Iranian Azerbaijan language and Azerbaijani is not also their official language.
