Almaty Old Capital City

Until 1997, Almaty was the capital of Kazakhstan, and then shifted to Astana. I heard a variety of reasons for this like; Almaty is too near to China, the country had a desire of fresh start and the country is so big that it needed a largely centralized capital etc. Don’t know what could perhaps be the correct reason behind it. But it seems as Almaty remains the capital city to Kazakh. And as per as the subway of ALMATY is concern, these are the first subway in Kazakhstan. Subways took 23 odd years in building, not because of slow construction work but only because of the funding issue.

The Aral Sea is located between Kazakhstan & Uzbekistan. It was once the fourth largest lake in the world but due to irrigation (water of Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers robbing the Aral water supply for agriculture purpose) it has shrunk by 70%, from 67,000 square km in 1960 to 30,000 square km by 1996. It referred to the worst environmental disaster on the earth.

Minority in Own Land

The Kazakhs was not in the majority at the time of their independence in 1991. The goal of their government has to convert the Kazakh population into majority throughout the county. This can be seen in many overt & covert action to policies of Kazakhstan.

The Lake Balkhash

Lake Balkhash Kazakhstan

The Balkhash Lake in Kazakhstan is the 12th largest lake of the world. This lake has confused personality because half of the lake consist fresh water and another half having salt water. It maintains this unlikely balance in part. Because the two halves are joined by a narrow straight that is 3.5 kilometres wide and six meters deep.
