Kalyan Minaret Tour

Kalyan Minaret is amongst the tallest buildings in Bukhara. A thick pillar tapers and ends up with massive cylindrical rotunda on stalactite crown. Located on the eastern part of Bukhara it is believed to be constructed in the XI century. The purpose of the minaret was to call during prayers hours. However, later this minaret served as an observation post, to watch for invading armies.

However, later this minaret served as an observation post, to watch for invading armies. During the reign of Bukhara ruler, it served as a place of public punishment. The punished were thrown from top of the minaret to the stone courtyard below. Hence it came to be known as the Tower of Death. It is one of the most dominant pillars of Bukhara.
