The Amir Temur Square is named after the founder and commander of a vast medieval empire. From this square, most of the streets originate from neighboring states. An underground bypass takes you the square from the Tashkent railway station where you can see the famous monument of Amir Temur. The square has a fascinating history. Initially, it was designed by Imperial Russian architects in 1870 and called Constantine Square. Since then the central monument has been replaced several times. The first was of General Kaufmann then came monument to Free Workers in 1917, then a monument to October revolution in 1927, replaced by Stalin in 1947, then Karl Marx 1968. Towards the south of Amir Temur square is the famous Tashkent Chimes, which was erected in 1947. The clock is a World War II trophy, which was brought from Konigsberg.
