The house of opera and ballet

The house of opera and ballet of Armenia is named after Alexander Spendiaryan and located in the city Yerevan in Armenia. The construction of this opera house was designed by Alexander Tasmanian who was an Armenian architect. The theatre was formally inaugurated on 20th January 1933. There are two concert halls in the opera building; one is the Aram Khatchaturian concert hall having 1,400 seats and the second is Alexander Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Theatre having 1,200 seats. The first ballet performance took place here in 1935.

The first ballet performance took place here in 1935. The construction of the theatre hall was done in 1939 whereas the construction of the entire building was done in 1953. Since the beginning, more than two hundred performances are done in the theater by composers of different countries. The theatre became the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in 1956.
