Amongst the majority Muslim country, the Russian Orthodox Church has mostly Russians as its members. This church was established in 1871 under the patronage of St. Panteleimon. The Military Hospital of Tashkent replaced the old church cemetery. The church was assigned to Living Church movement, like most parishes in Central Asia. The Bolsheviks promoted it. The Church was closed in the year 1933 to worship and became a military depot in 1945. The church was restored and reopened and devoted to Dormition in the year 1945. It also became the seat of the Bishop of Tashkent. Next, to the main dome, the bell tower was reconstructed, and the interiors were also redecorated.
