The history of aviation in Kyrgyzstan begin some 85 years ago under “Soviet Socialist Republic” era. The first airport in the country was founded in 1933 in the village of Popenovka near the town of Bishkek. The first ever flight was performed since in 1933 across the Kungei Ala-Too and Kyrgyz Ala-Too mountain ranges by Nikolay Ieske and Yevgeny Balakshi. Three of U-2 aircraft was the backbone of the first Kyrgyz squadron and was served to fulfill the needs of agriculture. On 7 October 1994, the government established as the Day of Civil Aviation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
